Until now you were trying to improve your skin. From today you are trying not to damage it. These are different skills.
Thirty days is a strange amount of time. It feels like enough to fix something, which is exactly what makes it dangerous. It is not enough to fix. It is exactly enough to ruin. A reaction takes three days to appear and three weeks to settle — do that maths against your date.
In the last month, the best thing you can do to your face is less to it.
No new product. Not a sample, not a gift hamper, not your sister's serum that is genuinely very good. No first-time treatment of any kind — no first peel, first laser, first threading at a new place, first injectable. No stronger anything. Do not increase your retinoid frequency because you want faster results. No aggressive extractions. A clean-up ten days out can still be red on the day. No new supplements or 'detox' teas. Your skin is a downstream organ.
Day 30–21: Last hydrating or gentle medi-facial with the person who has been treating you all along. Nothing that peels, resurfaces or draws blood. Day 21: Last hair colour or root touch-up. Colour settles, and a warm tone needs a week to calm down. Day 14: Last waxing session at full strength; bodies get sensitive. Repeat 2–3 days before the function only if this is your usual rhythm. Day 10–7: Final gentle facial — hydration only. Threading and brows: 3–4 days before, not the night before, so redness settles. Day 7: Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids. Move to cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen. Boring is the goal. Day 3: Nothing new on your face at all. Sleep, water, and the routine you have been running for months.
Sleep, and specifically the last week of it. Nothing in a bottle competes with the difference between five hours and seven and a half across the final seven nights — and the last week is the week everyone sleeps least. Guard it the way you guard the budget.
The panic facial at day 5. It comes from a good place and it is the single most common bridal skin regret. Whatever it fixes, it can also inflame, and there is no time left to recover. Trying a brand-new foundation on the day. Wear-test everything that goes on your face at least once, in the same weather, before the function. Threading or waxing the night before. Redness, bumps and sensitivity take 24–72 hours to settle. Move it three days earlier and it disappears from your photographs.
Stop retinoids and acids at day 7. Nothing new on your face for thirty days — no exceptions, however good the offer is. Protect the last seven nights of sleep like they are part of the budget.
Yes — a gentle, hydrating facial with a professional who already knows your skin is fine at 21–30 days, and a final light one at 7–10 days. Avoid peels, aggressive extractions and any first-time treatment in this window.
About a week before. Retinoids and exfoliating acids can leave skin dry or flaky at the wrong moment, and makeup sits badly on compromised skin. Keep cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen only in the final seven days.
Threading and brows 3–4 days before; full waxing about 5–7 days before, or 2–3 days if that is already your regular rhythm. Never the night before — redness and bumps need at least a day or two to settle.
