Which is lovely for the family, and hard on the skin. This is the plan, function by function.
Count them. Roka. Sagan. Chunni chadhana. Mehndi. Jaago. Sangeet. Haldi. Chooda. Phere. Then the reception. Ten events, sometimes inside twelve days. Every one of them has photographs.
Most Punjabi brides plan makeup for each function. Almost nobody plans skin for the gap between them. That gap is where things go wrong — the skin never gets a quiet day.
Roka and sagan — heavy indoor lights, long hours, full makeup. Skin comes home clogged. Double cleanse the same night, not next morning. Chunni chadhana — usually daytime, usually at home. Easy on skin. Good day for a plain face and lots of water. Mehndi — you sit still for four to six hours. The hands are busy so nobody drinks water or eats. Dehydrated skin the next day is normal and avoidable. Jaago and sangeet — late night, heavy makeup, dancing, sweat. This is the night breakouts start. Sleep with a clean face, no matter how late. Haldi — turmeric plus open sun. Turmeric can leave a yellow cast on some skins for a day or two. Doing it in shade helps more than scrubbing after. Chooda — early morning, emotional, family everywhere. Usually a light face day. Phere — hours near a fire. Heat and smoke dry the skin and redden the eyes.
You cannot give your skin a rest day during the shaadi. So build the rest days before it.
3 months before: Start whatever is slow — acne control, marks, hair fall. Nothing here shows results in under 10 weeks. 6 weeks before: Last facial that goes deep. Peels and any strong treatment stop here. 3 weeks before: Trial makeup with your artist. Anything that reacts still has time to settle. 10 days before: Last gentle clean-up. No new product enters your routine after today. 5 days before: Threading and waxing. Not the day before — redness needs time. The mehndi day: Drink water on the hour. Ask someone to hold the glass. Simple, and it is the single thing brides skip.
Booking a facial two days before the phere. A facial pushes what is under the skin to the surface. Two days is exactly when it shows. Trying a new fairness or glow cream in the last month. New product plus wedding stress is how a reaction gets blamed on the wrong thing. Threading the morning of the function. Redness around the brow lasts a few hours on most skin, longer on sensitive skin. Doing haldi in full sun. Sun plus turmeric plus a hot day gives you a tan line right where the blouse sits.
Put every function date into the planner, not just the wedding date. Stop all strong treatments six weeks before the first function, not before the phere. Keep one product routine through the whole shaadi. Boring is the point.
Ten days before your first function, not before the phere. A regular Punjabi shaadi starts about a week before the wedding day, so counting from the phere leaves you with a facial in the middle of the events.
Turmeric can leave a yellow or slightly dull cast on some skin for a day or two. It fades on its own. Scrubbing it hard is what actually causes damage. The bigger issue is sun during a daytime haldi.
Yes, but at least three weeks before the first function. That leaves room to correct it if the shade comes out wrong, and lets the scalp settle.
