The earliest wedding in India needs the calmest plan.
Most Tamil weddings have an auspicious time in the early morning. Which means makeup starts around two a.m., and the bride has often slept for three hours. No cream fixes that. Only planning the two nights before does.
The oil bath tradition is genuinely good for hair and scalp. Two honest cautions. Oil on the face in the last two weeks can bring on breakouts on skin that is prone to them. And oil left in the hair on the wedding morning makes styling flat and jasmine slip out.
Keep oiling the scalp weekly, stop ten days before. Keep the face out of it in the last three weeks if you break out easily. Wash hair the evening before, not the same morning — freshly washed hair does not hold a bun well.
A full gajra is heavy. Say yes to it, but have the braid built to carry the weight. Kanjivaram silk is hot and does not breathe. In Chennai or Madurai, that plus a fire is a lot. Temple gold sits directly on the neck and ears for hours. Trial it for an hour.
3 months before: Slow work only — marks, acne, hair fall. 6 weeks before: Last deep facial. 3 weeks before: Makeup and hair trial with the real gajra weight. 2 nights before: Sleep early. This is the single highest-value thing on this page.
Protect two nights of sleep before the muhurtham. Stop face oil three weeks out if you break out. Trial the hair with the real gajra, not a small one.
Good for the scalp and hair, and a real tradition worth keeping. On the face, in the last three weeks, it can bring on breakouts if your skin is already oily or acne-prone.
The evening before. Same-morning washed hair is slippery and holds a braid or bun poorly, especially with a heavy gajra.
